Saturday is, thankfully, now behind me! What an incredible event and a wonderful experience presenting “Food is the Foundation” to a group of about 50 or so parents, doctors, and scientists at the event, “Healthy Kids…Naturally!” put on by People Advocating Vaccine Education (PAVE). Since this was my first presentation, I was relieved that it ended up being a smaller group than I had anticipated. It gave the event the feeling of an intimate group of friends. Also, being in a classroom setting made it feel less intimidating, as well. I actually really enjoyed getting up and sharing what I’ve learned! I had some good feedback and even a potential future speaking engagement for a group of pediatricians! And it is always great talking to like-minded people.
I took the often-given advice of one of my business mentors, Rhea Perry of Educating for Success, and looked for an opportunity to invite one of the speakers to lunch. Here we all are! A.J. Lanigan (sitting diagonally across from me) is the creator of Beta-1 3D Glucan supplement and a pretty smart guy whom I enjoyed talking with. Jon would have appreciated his subtle sense of humor! His girlfriend (next to/behind me) was a sweet lady from Russia, if I remember correctly. When you invite someone to share a meal with you, it really gives you a good chance to get to know them as a person. And it’s not about what you can get in a business sense, but what you can give. If any type of business relationships develop out of that in the future, that’s a nice bonus. But relationships are the key! If you “only” get to know people better and form more friendships, that is certainly no loss at all! I believe building some level of friendship should be the first step.
Here is another photo of me with Dan Olmsted. I really enjoyed hearing his passion for the topic of vaccinations and he has certainly done a lot for the autism and pro-vaccine-choice community…even if he did admit to being a liberal. 😉 We’ll forgive him! I believe he has a heart of true care and compassion and I wish I could have had more time to get to know him better.
What an honor it was to speak! I’m looking forward to the next event and excited to see what God has in store!
